The plugin uses the OAUTH authentication method. OAUTH is now the preferred method for connecting to Twitter.

If you own a self hosted WordPress blog, you can download the Social Media Pack Twitter Plugin directly from WordPress. Installation is simple and quick, you will be asked to authenticate to your Twitter account and from then on every post from WordPress is cross posted to Twitter with a link back to your originally post. Simples!!
